the Kalwall system to be simple to detail, cost effective, and the quick erection and assembly eased site congestion
Founded in 1982, Stubbe’s Precast has evolved to be Ontario’s leader in Architectural and Structural Precast, Redi-Mix concrete, and bulk cement. With their continued growth, they set out to build a new office adjacent to their existing facilities to showcase their offerings and inspire architects and designers around the world.
Working with IBI Group in Waterloo, they looked to highlight the dozens of unique precast and architectural finishes in their working showroom using full spectrum natural daylight. IBI Group worked with Bravura and Kalwall to provide a large span skylight to provide a glare free, highly insulated, and maintenance free system that would harvest and deliver daylight deep into the three storey atrium space.
Throughout the duration of the project, the team found the Kalwall system to be simple to detail, cost effective, and the quick erection and assembly eased site congestion. The aftermath can be clearly seen with the full spectrum natural daylight providing additional “pop” to the beautiful concrete interiors.
The Stubbe’s Precast Head Office is the winner of the Architectural Merit award from Ontario Concrete Awards 2019.
Designers world-wide have been turning to Kalwall to highlight the architectural use of natural materials since the 1950s. John Andrews started using Kalwall in his sculptural concrete buildings in the early 1960s across Ontario and the US which enhanced the depth of his Béton brut designs.
With the growing popularity of glulam in North America, Kalwall continues to be the product of choice to enrich the appearance of the natural wood and protect the interior finish and structural performance from UV degradation.
